2021 Jeep Gladiator Review
The Jeep Gladiator first arrived on the scene in 2019 and launched with great fanfare. Jeep unleashed the Gladiator, and it didn't disappoint. This pickup built on the Wrangler platform has a legacy of adventure that goes back to World War II and offers solid towing and hauling with some class-leading off-road capabilities.

2021 Jeep Gladiator Overview
The 2021 Jeep Gladiator is a midsize pickup truck that this year arrives with a brand-new option for a V6 diesel engine that kicks up performance while improving fuel economy. It comes with a 5-foot cargo bed and seats up to five people. Its unique mix of Jeep Wrangler and pickup truck sensibilities make it an attractive option for many drivers.
The Gladiator comes with two engine options. The first is the gas-powered 3.6L V6 engine that gives you 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft in torque. You can also step up to a powerful 3.0L turbo-diesel V6 with 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft in torque. With the gas engine, you get a 6-speed manual transmission with an optional 8-speed automatic.
The diesel is exclusively paired to the automatic transmission. All Gladiator trim levels also come with four-wheel drive.
Gladiator Trim Levels and Options
The trim levels for the Gladiator include the base Sport, the mid-range Overland, the off-road Rubicon, and the top-of-the-line High Altitude. At the base level you get cruise control, a sound system with eight speakers, voice controls, and a 5-inch infotainment display. You also get a folding soft top with removable doors and a fold-down windshield.
At the Overland level, you get power accessories, heated power mirrors, a 7-inch infotainment interface with smart device compatibility, dual USB ports, and automatic climate control. You can also add features like an 8.4-inch display and premium sound by Alpine®. The Rubicon and Mojave add superior off-road performance features.
Off-Road Capabilities
The Rubicon and Mojave trim levels offer upgraded off-road abilities. These include all-terrain tires and increased ground clearance to help you bowl over any obstacle that stands in your way. You may also get to enjoy:
- Locking differentials
- Electronic disconnecting stabilizer
- Upgraded shock absorbers
- Low-range gearing
A Class IV tow hitch is also optional, so you can bring your travel trailer to even the most remote campsites.
Jeep Gladiator Towing and Payload Capability
When properly equipped with the Class IV towing hitch and powerful engine, the Gladiator boasts a maximum towing capacity of 7,650 pounds, enough for a decent-sized trailer or to drag your friend's sedan out of the mud.
It also has a maximum payload of 1,700 pounds, so you can put plenty of cargo in the bed.
